A message from your Chief Executive

Karen Pearson

Having just looked at my last message I comment on the glorious weather.  How that has changed!  For many the summer has been really disappointing with constant wind and rain.  I hope some of you managed to escape to some warmer places.

We are in the final build up to the Take the Lead sponsored dog walks to be held over the weekend of 4th and 5th October this year.  Please do join in and support the Trust - last year's walks were huge fun and enjoyed by many walkers.  You will see all the venues under our 'News and Events' section on the website.   Once again we are indebted to Royal Canin for their support.

The Trust has recently provided a number of training evenings for the British Veterinary Nursing Association around the UK.  Also joining in have been groomers who are members of the Pet Care Trust.  The evenings have proved popular and we are delighted to be able to work closely with both these organisations.   We greatly value all veterinary nurses and groomers who are very much in the front line and are often the first to spot lumps and other problems in cats and dogs.  The final session for 2008 will be held in Newbury in September.

The Animal Cancer Trust will be exhibiting at the BVNA Congress to be held in Kettering in October.  Malcolm Brearley will also be speaking at the Congress.  This will be our last official event as BVNA's charity of the year.  It has been a very successful collaboration and we will continue to work with the BVNA in the future.

If any of you attend the huge GLEE Petindex Show at the NEC, Birmingham (21-23 September 2008) Malcolm Brearley will be talking about cancer care on Sunday 21 September and it will be an opportunity to ask questions and meet our Chairman.

We are once again giving travel grants to the veterinary universities that have resident oncologists to encourage the next generation of specialists.

Keep watching out for latest news on our website - and I hope you are all planning to join in the walks in October!
